First school for young translators ‘Russia – Poland’

The first school for young translators ‘Russia — Poland’ will take place from 16 to 21 September, 2019 in the Centre of Slavic cultures at the Library for foreign literature.

A range of special events is aimed at young professionals as well as students from Russian and Polish universities majoring in Slavic languages and willing to translate professionally from Russian into Polish and from Polish into Russian.

The aim of this project is to transfer the experience of professionals of literary translation to young people, preserve and develop Russian and Polish translation schools, find and support talented young translators and interpreters, maintain relationships between representatives of the current and future intellectual elite of the two European countries.

Leading experts from Poland and Russia will organise a series of lectures, practical classes, a translation contest and a presentation of the latest editions of Russian and Polish literature, as well as a scientific round table devoted to the current problems of translation. The working languages of the seminar will be Russian and Polish.

As the year of 2019 is officially devoted to Theatre, the school will mainly focus on drama.


The foundation ‘Russian-Polish centre for dialogue and harmony’ and ANO ‘The Institute for literary translation’ will provide financial support for the events. The partners of the event are: The Institute of Slavic studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, The Institute of Slavic culture of RSU A. N. Kosygin, The Department of Slavic Philology, The Faculty of Philology at Lomonosov Moscow State University, The Faculty of Humanities at The Higher School of Economics and others.
